Floods and earthquakes strike a remote island. A young hunter encounters a mysterious leopard, whose dreams are believed to influence the local climate.

The Quiet Island is an animated experimental short film that explores the complex relationship between humans and nature through a fairytale-like narrative. The project draws both aesthetic and cultural inspiration from my second home country, Mauritius. The film combines traditional hand-drawn animation with mixed-media paintings, which are brought to life through frame-by-frame filming. In addition to subtle camera movements, the boundaries between painting and moving image are blurred using optical effects such as illuminated fragments of glass and mirrors, water, and living shadows.
